It's known as the adventure capital of Europe, a place where adrenaline junkies flock to experience the ultimate thrill.

But let's be honest, everyone wants to try paragliding here.

It's the quintessential Interlaken bucket list experience, offering breathtaking views of the Jungfrau region's mountains and the two stunning lakes (Lake Thun and Lake Brienz).

When I was researching, I knew I didn't want the standard short flight; I wanted the full experience.

That's why I chose this specific tour—I wanted to truly soak it all in.

Why This Tour Is Different: Double Airtime

Most paragliding tours last about 10-15 minutes, which feels like it ends almost as soon as it begins.

This Double Airtime option, however, guarantees a minimum of 30 minutes in the air.

Think about it: double the time floating above the majestic Swiss Alps!

This tour goes higher and farther than standard flights, giving you an unparalleled view of the entire Interlaken valley.

It’s run by Paragliding Interlaken, a company established in 1990, so you know safety and professionalism are top-notch.

If you're going to do a once-in-a-lifetime activity, why not do it right and choose the option that maximizes the experience?

You'll get to see the fairytale-like villages nestled between the lakes, just like in the famous drama Crash Landing on You.

Detailed Information: What You Need to Know

This isn't your average paragliding experience, so there are a few important details to keep in mind.

First, because you fly higher and longer, this tour is only available during the summer season (June, July, August) due to weather conditions.

Second, a crucial point from my experience: they recommend this for people who have paragliding experience or a strong stomach.

Because you are in the air for so long and higher up, there is a possibility of motion sickness.

If you get easily dizzy or have severe acrophobia, you might want to consider the standard flight instead.

The weight limit is between 25kg and 100kg, and kids from 6 years old can participate.

Also, keep in mind that if the weather conditions on the day of your flight aren't good enough for Double Airtime, it might be changed to a standard flight, and you'll receive a refund for the price difference.

A Day of Adventure: My Recommended Itinerary

My day started with an easy pickup from my hostel.

The red van from Paragliding Interlaken is hard to miss!

After a short drive, we went to the office near Hohematte Park.

This is where you check in, use the restroom, and safely store any bags or even large luggage you might have.

Next, we boarded the red bus again for a scenic drive up the mountain to Beatenberg.

The views on the way up were almost as good as the flight itself.

Once we reached the launch site, we quickly geared up with helmets and jackets (they provide them if it’s chilly).

The instructors give you clear instructions: When I say run, you run hard!

Taking off from the grass field and immediately soaring into the air was one of the most exhilarating moments of my life.

For the next 30 minutes, I was completely mesmerized by the panoramic views of Interlaken below.

Location and Logistics: Getting There

The pickup process is very smooth and convenient for travelers staying in Interlaken.

The company picks up guests from specific locations within Interlaken, including Interlaken West/Ost stations and several hostels (Balmers', Backpackers', Youth hostel).

My pickup point was near Interlaken West station, which was super easy to find.

Once you land after the flight, you end up right in the middle of Interlaken central park (Hohematte).

From here, it’s a short walk of about 10 minutes to either Interlaken West or East station, so getting back to your accommodation is hassle-free.

The office where you leave your belongings is also located near Hohematte Park, right where you land, making it convenient to grab your stuff before continuing your day.

Insider Tips & Preparations

Pack light and wear comfortable clothes.

Even if it's warm on the ground, it gets chilly high up in the air, so bring layers.

A light windbreaker is good, but they provide jumpers and helmets.

Make sure to bring some cash or a card (40 CHF) if you want to purchase the photos and videos of your flight.

They download the files immediately to your phone on the spot.

I highly recommend getting the photos; trust me, you won't want to forget this experience, and selfies just don't capture the scale of the view.

If you're prone to motion sickness, take medicine beforehand!

The instructor can do gentle spins or a calm flight, so make sure to communicate your preference before takeoff.

Also, purchase travel insurance, as recommended for all activities in Switzerland.

Is This Tour Worth It?

If you're someone who believes that a few extra dollars for a significantly enhanced experience is money well spent, then yes, this Double Airtime tour is absolutely worth it.

The difference between 15 minutes and 30 minutes in the air is huge.

It gives you time to really relax into the experience and appreciate the view without feeling rushed.

For first-timers, this will set the bar incredibly high for any future paragliding adventures.

For experienced paragliders, it offers a chance to explore higher altitudes and more varied views.

This tour truly embodies the ultimate Interlaken experience, allowing you to float over the stunning landscape that feels straight out of a movie.

Final Thoughts on My Swiss Bucket List

I've checked off many things in Switzerland, but paragliding over Interlaken was truly a highlight.

The view from above—the turquoise lakes on either side, the green valley, and the towering white peaks—is something I will never forget.

It's an experience that makes you feel small in the best possible way, surrounded by the incredible grandeur of nature.

The Double Airtime option allowed me to fully immerse myself in that moment for longer.

When I looked down at the tiny toy cars and houses below, I realized why Interlaken is so famous for this activity.

It’s not just about the thrill of flying; it's about seeing one of the world's most beautiful landscapes from a truly unique perspective.

Review Time: The Best 30 Minutes of My Life

My pilot, Marco, was fantastic.

I was a little nervous during the initial run-up to take off, but as soon as we were airborne, all my fear vanished.

The silence up there was incredible.

We flew much higher than I expected, soaring over the town and getting clear views of both Lake Thun and Lake Brienz.

The instructor let me try steering for a bit, which was really fun.

The Double Airtime felt like a gentle, peaceful journey rather than just a quick adrenaline rush.

Marco pointed out different peaks and even let me know when we were flying directly over specific landmarks.

He even did a few controlled spins (only after checking if I was okay with it!), which made my stomach drop in the most exciting way.

I landed softly in the park, feeling completely elated.

The photos and videos I bought captured every moment perfectly.

If you’re deciding between the standard flight and this one, go for the Double Airtime. You won't regret paying a little extra for the longer experience.
